NSS Trek – Nethravathi Peak - 17 December 2022

NSS Unit of NMAM Institute of Technology Nitte organized a one day trek to Nethravathi Peak in the Kudremukh forest range on 17 December 2022. The journey from the college campus at 6.30 am and reached the destination at Samse at 8.30 a.m. After breakfast volunteers carried packed lunches and started the trek.

A small jeep ride of 7 km from the department office to the base of the trek with lush vibrant green paddy fields and tea plantations on either side was an experience in itself.

A lesser-known yet beautiful trek is what makes the Nethravti peak stand out! Located in the Kudremukh forest range, in the Chikmagalur district, this no-trail trek called for more excitement and adventure. There was no man movement and one might be lucky to find a few Sambar Deers, Bisons, and Bears too.

Once we reached the peak, a feeling of immense gratitude and love for the forest satiated us. A spectacular 360-degree view of cloud-laden mountains greeted us. We could behold the Nethravati River and even catch a glimpse of Ujire. Clear skies brought to us a view of the very famous Kudremukh peak.

We spent some relaxed time on the peak, soaking in the beauty around us. We then had our packed lunches and started heading back to the base, taking the same route back, through the grasslands, valleys, and the forest but with a longing to stay for more time on the peak.

Mr. Srinivas Nekkar NSS Programme Officer organized the trek and about 60 NSS volunteers participated. Dr. Janardhan Nayak Professor Department of chemistry and other staff members also participated in the trek.
