The NSS was launched on 24th September 1969, the birth centenary year of the Father of our Nation Mahatma Gandhi to whom social service was almost a religion. NSS is a voluntary association of Students and Teachers in Colleges at UG level. The principle of the NSS programme is to get a sense of involvement in the task of Nation Building through community service.
The motto or watchword of the National Service Scheme is 'NOT ME BUT YOU'. This reflects the essence of democratic living and upholds the need for selfless service and appreciation of the other person's point of view.

National Services Scheme unit of NMAM Institute of Technology, Niite in association with VTU, Belagavi has organized seven days annual special camp at Sri MahalingeswaraMahaganapathi Temple, Miyar village, KarkalaTaluk, Udupi Districtfrom 16th to22nd December 2018.
On 16th December 2018, the first day of the NSS camp, we have taken all the materials related to camp from the Nitte College and entered the camp at Miyar village. All the NSS volunteers are cleaned the location of placenear the Shri Mahalingeshwara Mahaganapati Temple and invited all Miyar’s villagers with their family to participate in NSS activities and to create the awareness of the Swattch Bharath Abhiyan.
Dr. Janardhana Nayak, Professor, NSS Programme Officer is selected Mr.Deekshith M. D. and Mis.Deeksha as leader of NSS camp.Dr. Janardhana Nayak, NSS Programme Officer described the aim and objectives of NSS and mentioned the expectations from volunteers in the special camp. Mr. Mahesh Kini, Assistant Professor, Mrs.Soumya, Assistant Professor, Dr.Nagaraja B S, Assistant professor, and Mrs.Alaka Ananth,Assistant Professor were welcomed the all dignitaries and NSS Volunteers.
The camp was started on 16th December 2018 with a formal inauguration programme at Mahalingeshwara Sababavan. The invocation song by Ms.Vrinda and Ms.Swathi. Dr. Janardhana Nayak,Professor, NSS Programme Officer, formally welcomed the dignitaries. Shri Sannuru Narasimha Kamat is a member of Administration Management from Karnataka Panchayathraj, inaugurated the camp by lighting the lamp.Dr.Niranjan N. Chiplunkar, Principal, NMAMIT, Nitte Presided over the function. They advised the volunteers to use this camp as a learning opportunity and understand the culture and tradition of tribes. Shri A. YogeshHegde, Registrar, Nitte Education Trust, Nitte, as honourable presence in this camp and Dr. I.R.Mittantaya, Vice Principal, NMAMIT, Smt.Nirmala, President, Miyar, Panchayath, Shri Haridas Bhat, Priest, Sri Mahalingeswara Mahaganapathi Temple, Mr.Jerold D’Silva, APMC, Member are the people wished camp all the success. Miss. Soumya, proposed the vote of thanks.They had inaugural speech with the golden words for NSS camp. After the inaugural programme, Mr.Krishnaraj Joisa, Public Relation, Officer, NMAMIT, Nitte delivered a talk on “Public contact and Media Campaign” with best examples.
The day started with morning assembly and prayer followed by the attendance of the NSS volunteers. Shri. Satyendra Nayak performed the flag hoisting and shared his experience. In the morning session, the volunteers undertook Shramadana and cleaned temple around the workplace.
In the afternoon, Educational programme session Dr. S.K. Mahadeve Gowda, Professor, Civil Engineering Department was a resource person who spoke about “The role of youth in the nation’s development”. A resource person Dr.Chidananda Sanju, District controller of tuberculosis disease, has given the excellent talk about HIV and TB. He explained very well about the prevention and alertness of HIV and TB.Shri Kishore Shetty, a guest, spoke about the importance of faith and determination.Dr.Subramanya Bhat, Dean (Student welfare), NMAMIT, Nitte was the president of the day for NSS camp. He have given motivational and inspired talk to NSS volunteers. At evening, the NSS volunteers have given wonderful cultural program which is created the awareness of Swattch Bharath.
The day started with Morning assembly and prayer followed by the attendance of the NSS Volunteers and Shri Vishnumurthi Bhat performed the flag hoisting and shared his amazing experience of helping to the people and requirements for NSS volunteers.The exercises began with a simple meditation which was quite therapeutic and soothing. This was followed by the Assistant Prof. Mahesh Kini in the soft morning sunlight. Some gentle and effective aasanas were taught to the studentsthat would keep their body fresh in every moment.
NSS volunteers are observed the Miyar village, and they find that the roads were three roads to reach the temple, but those roads were not in good condition to reach the temple by walk, vehicle. etc. They the NSS coordinator, leaders and Volunteers have decided to clean the miyar village road and make the road as convenient to people. They started the work between Mahalingeshwara temple and church road. All volunteers did their best work to make the clear road. After cleared the road, it was very convenient way to reach the temple or church for people by walk or vehicle.
Dr. I.R.Mittantaya, Vice-Principal and Dean (Academics) was a resource person for the Educational programme, he has given a lecture on “Success is not accidental”. He gave a talk and also showed documentary and photographs of various types of disasters. ShriShekar Poojari, Student welfare, NMAMIT, a president of third day NSS camp, and Dr. Ramesh Bhat Associate Professor and Head, Department of Chemistry, NMAMII, as a guest who encouraged us with their experiences.JC.Rajendra Bhat was another resource person for the Educational programme, gave a lecture on “Leadership”.Then NSS camp has a cultural program with miyar villagers. The events included were Ad-Mad shows, Extempore, Skit, Story in a bag, etc.
On fourth day Shri Naveen Kumar, Member of Miyar Panchayath performed the flag hoisting and he was the guest speaker on the occasion. Later Prof. Mahesh Kini,gave some useful yoga tips to the students which can make them stress free. Later on Volunteers took the activity of college cleanliness and repair of the Miyar second road from temple to Masidroad. After the lunch NSS voluteers along with Officers and Principal visited Canara Bank C.E. Kamath Institute for Artisans. We have seen the many sculpture carvings there. Then there was an academic program. Shri Gunavanteshwar Bhat a sculpture teacher C.E. Kamath Institute for Artisans Miyaru was a resource person for the academic program, gave a lecture on “Social thinking is life”. Shri G.P. Prabhu Director, C.E. Kamath Institute for Artisans Miyaru informed about his organization. Dr.ShashikanthKarinka, HOD Mechanical Engineering, NMAMIT, Nitte spoken about how to use energy resources in moderation. The volunteers enjoyed lots in this day. It was a refreshing experience for the students. Then Then NSS volunteers the cultural program and the miyaru villager are also given some entertainment to NSS volunteers.
On fifth day Shri Satyendra Nayak, Agriculturist and Member of Temple Commitee, Miyar performed the flag hoisting and He took the students on a tour to some remote villages through his words and explained to them the qualities of a good NSS volunteer.
Then NSS volunteers started the work of the Shramadana. They cleaned one road to reach the temple. Dr.Devidas Naik, Professor, English Dept.,M.G.M. College,Udupi was a resource person for the Educational Programme,He discussed the various factors effecting the depletion of natural resources. He also gave an elaborative presentation on the reasons on “Living Art”. Sri Dhayanand Bayar, Professor, NSAM First Grade College, Nitte a president who shared about NSS camp experiences. He traced the history of NSS, the meaning of our emblem, the objectives and duties of an NSS volunteer. Smt. Anita D.Bayar a guest who encouraged us with their experiences. The cultural program was started by Roshan Fernandes , Associate Professor, NMAMIT Nitte and his team made the show morerelaxed by singing songs.
On sixth day Shri Ramdas Sakalkar performed the flag hoisting and shared his experience with us.In the morning session, the volunteers undertook Shramadana and cleaned temple around the workplace.
In afternoon session, the valedictory commenced with the presentation of detailed report of 7 days activities of NSS camp by Ms.Chitrashee, NSS volunteer.Dr. Niranjan N. Chiplunkar, is Principal of our college was the President for the valedictory ceremony of NSS camp. Dr.Manjunath Kotyan, Principal, Sri Bhavanendra College, Karkala, a chiefguest, did speech with the golden words and also in presence of ShriPrashanthHolla, Principal, NRAM Aided Polytechnic,Srimati Pramila Moolya, Taluk Panchyath Member, Miyarand Shri Manjunath Nayak, Ex-President, Temple Committee are the people who blessed us. The principle distributed the certificates for all the NSS volunteers. The NSS volunteers gave their experience in the Camp.Dr. Janardhana Nayak, NSS Programme Officer proposed the vote of thanks.
Then we took a cultural program. Villagers entertained us with many games. After the dinner, the National Service Scheme’s illumination is illuminated. It was a wonderful opportunity for the students to learn and have fun at the same time. The villager’s leader also interacted with the students and shared their experiences in the National Camps.
The final day of the camp began with the singing of NSS song. It was followed by a session by a well-known behavioural passion. Prof. Janardhan Nayak stimulated the inquiring, young minds of the studentsto become “great, remarkable, awesome leaders”, and discussed many topics including impression management, emotional intelligence and creative problemsolving. With the least shadow of doubt, I can affirm that the students thoroughly enjoyed the NSS camp.
In the end Dr. Janardan Nayak expressed his thanks to the co-NSS officers and students in making the camp a great success. All NSS faculties are also encouraged the students to follow the path of NSS and feel to beas proud of them.
World Biofuels Day was celebrated by Department of Biotechnology Engineering in association with Udupi district Biofuel Information and Demonstration Centre, and National Service Scheme (NSS) at NMAMIT, Nitte campus. The chief guests Mr. S. N. Sondur, Principal Scientist, KSCST, I.I.Sc., Bengaluru and Mr. G N Dayanand, Manager (Operations) KCBDB Bengaluru inaugurated the event by planting the saplings of Biofuel plant (Hippe and Honne). Dr. Niranjan N. Chiplunkar, Principal of NMAMIT Nitte, Dr. Shrinivasa Rao, Vice Principal, Sri. Yogesh Hegde, Registrar NET Campus, Dr. Sudesh Bekal, Dean (R&D), Dr. Udaya Kumar Reddy Professor and Head of Computer Science and Engineering, B Ramakrishna,HOD, Humanities, Dr. Janardhana Nayak, NSS Programme Officer also planted different varieties of biofuel saplings. The NSS volunteers and students of Biotechnology Engineering planted about 270 biofuel samplings in the campus (Honne, Simarouba, Hippe, Amura). World biofuels day is celebrated in the memory of the first usage of biofuel (peanut oil) in diesel engine by Dr. Rudolf Diesel on 10th of August 1893. The seeds obtained from these plants are useful in producing non-edible oil which can be converted to Biodiesel. Biodiesel can be used in any diesel engine by mixing with petroleum diesel. The usage of biodiesel will reduce environmental pollution and also minimizes problems associated with non-renewable sources of energy. The Department of Biotechnology at NMAMIT houses Biofuel Production Centre and is actively involved in Biofuel research.
The National Service Scheme (NSS), NMAMIT, Nitte organized one day workshop on Solid and Liquid Resource Management, on 18th August 2017 at NMAMIT, Nitte. Mr. C. Srinivasan, Project Director and Consultant for solid and liquid resource management in the Indian Green Service was the resource person of the workshop. He delivered a talk on Solid and Liquid (waste) Resource Management. Dr. Niranjan N. Chiplunkar, Principal presided over the inaugural function. Mr. Yogeesh Hegde, Registrar, NET Campus; Dr. Veena B.K., Principal, NSAM First Grade College, Professor Prashanth Holla, Principal, NRAM (Aided) Polytechnic were the special invitees for the workshop. About 350 NSS volunteers of NMAMIT, Nitte; NRAP, Nitte and Dr. NSAM FGC, Nitte participated in the event. Dr. Janardhana Nayak, NSS Programme Officer and Professor, Department of Chemistry, welcomed the gathering and briefed about the event. Mrs. Sowmya, Assistant NSS Officer and Assistant Professor, Department of Mathematics, delivered the vote of thanks. The workshop was sponsored jointly by Nitte Education Trust, Grama Panchayath, Nitte and NRAMP CPDP.
Swachh Bharat Abhiyan Programme was organized on 2nd October 2017 on the occasion of Mahatma Gandhiji and Lal Bahuddur Shasthri Jayanthi. Dr. Niranjan N. Chiplunkar, Principal, NMAMIT inaugurated and delivered the inaugural address. Mr.Yogesh Hegde, Registrar, Nitte Education Trust emphasized on the importance of the Swacch Bharat program. Dr. I.R. Mithanthaya, Vice-Principal and Dean Academic, Dr. Srinivas Rao B. R., Vice-Principal and COE, Mr. Prashanth Holla, Principal, NRAM Polytechnic, Dr. Veena B.K., Principal, Dr. NSAM First grade College, Nitte., Mr. Ashok Adyanthaya, Industrialist, were present during the programme. Dr. SrinathShetty, Resident Engineer and Professor, Civil Engineering Department gave presentation of Solid and Liquid Resource Management (SLRM). Prof. Pushparaj, Department of Civil Engineering, NMAMIT, welcomed the gathering. Dr.Janardhan Nayak, NSS Programme Officer and Professor, Department of Chemistry, delivered the vote of thanks.The Programme was sponsored by Nitte Education Trust. 500 students of the NMAMIT NSS Unit, NRAMP (Aided) Polytechnic NSS unit, Dr. N SAM First grade College NSS unit, Dr. NSAM PU College and Dr. NSAM English Medium School students are cleaned the N.E.T campus such as Roads, Hostel premises, College garden etc.
The National Service Scheme (NSS), NMAMIT, Nitte in association with Red Cross Unit, Rotary Club Nitte and Association for interaction of mechanical students (AIMS) organized Blood Donation Camp in the College on 12th January 2017. Principal Dr. Niranjan N. Chiplunkar inaugurated the camp and delivered inaugural address. Dr. I. Ramesh Mithanthaya, Vice Principal and Dean academics, Mr. Yogesh Hegde, Registrar, NET Campus, Dr. S. K. Mahadeve Gowda, Coordinator, Red Cross Unit, NMAMIT, Mr. Naresh Rai, Manager, Nitte-GajriaSpeciality Hospital, Karkala , Dr. Chandrika Rao, Blood Bank Officer, K. S. Hegde Charitable Hospital, Mangaluru, Dr.Veena, Blood Bank Officer, District Hospital, Udupi. Dr. Sharath, Blood Bank Officer, Wenlock District Hospital Mangaluru, Dr. Janardhana Nayak, N.S.S Program Officer and Mr.Venkatesh Murthy, AIMS Coordinator were present during the occasion. About 349 students/ staff have volunteered in this camp for donating blood. Certificates issued by the hospital were distributed to the blood donors. NSS and AIMS team is honored and feel privileged to make blood donation an annual event. The Blood Donation camp was coordinated by Mr. Sandeep Hegde, Assistant Professor, Department of Computer Science and Engineering, Mrs. Sowmya, Asst. Professor, Department of Mathematics and Mrs. Prathyakshini Asst. Professor, Department of Information Science and Engineering, NMAMIT, Nitte.
As a part of National Service Scheme (NSS) annual activities at NMAMIT in order to encourage more young voters to take part in the political process 'National Voters' Day' was celebrated on January 25th 2018. Dr. Niranjan N Chiplunkar, Principal, NMAMIT, Nitte, Prof. Vinaya B.R., I year Coordinator, Dr. Janardhana Nayak, NSS Programme Officer and Mr. Krishnaraja Joisa, PRO, were present during the event. Principal explained the significance of the voting. NSS volunteers and First Year Students of NMAMIT, Nitte, actively participated in the celebration and taken Voter’s Pledge on this occasion.
