The department of MCA was established in the year 1993 with an intake of 30. Currently, the intake is 120. MCA is a two year (four semester) full- time postgraduate program focusing on advanced theoretical and practical knowledge about computer application development and programming languages. The program equips students with the knowledge of four important areas– the mathematics behind computer science, core computers, systems science, and software development & design.

Skill Development

Enhancing Self Competence course is taught in the fourth semester for three hours per week. In this course, we focus on overall personality development, communication skills, grooming, group discussions and other competency building skills. Audit courses are offered along with the regular curriculum in the semester end vacations.

Pre-Placement Training Programme

Students are provided with extensive pre-placement training during the semester break. They are trained in mathematics/accountancy, quantitative analysis & software skills and technical and management skills to handle computer applications and software problem solving situations.

Dr. Surendra Shetty received a grant of Rs. 20,00,000 (Twenty Lakhs) from VGST, Government of Karnataka to establish Research centre “Centre of Innovation for studies on automatic natural Language processing and speech disorder problems in Kannada language."

About SAMCA: Students Association of MCA (SAMCA)

Students Association of MCA (SAMCA) is a students forum. SAMCA helps students to go beyond the parameters of classroom education. It organises extracurricular activities such as seminars, group discussions, technical quizzes and cultural programmes.

SAMCA organises annual SEMAPHORE, a South India Level inter-collegiate meet, providing students with hands-on experience in event management calling for creativity, leadership, team work and innovativeness.

WINDOWS is the Department wall magazine where students exhibit their literary talents

Professional society activities: Students are members of CSI India. The MCA students regularly participate in different events organized by CSI Nitte Chapter and ISTE student chapter activities.

Entrepreneurship Development Cell(EDC): Students attend seminars organized by the EDC of the Institute funded by the Department of Science and Technology, New Delhi.

Report of SAMCA UNPLUGGED

The department of MCA organized an event SAMCA UNPLUGGED on 27 October 2017. The Senior Customer Success Manager at Adobe India Pvt Ltd., Ms. Sharath Ramaswamy was the Chief Guest. The Head of the department Dr. Surendra Shetty welcomed the gathering.

The Director of MCA, Dr. K Mohan Hegde explained how the MCA at NMAMIT has evolved from its initial days to become one of the sophisticated departments.

The Chief Guest, Ms. Sharath Ramaswamy shared her experience in working for various IT companies. She gave insights on the vast opportunities available in the various domains of IT industry.

Principal Dr. Niranjan N Chiplunkar delivered the presidential remarks.

Newly elected office bearers of Student Association of MCA(SAMCA) were greeted on this occasion.

The formal function was followed by a guest lecture by Ms. Sharath Ramasamy on the topic ‘Current trends in IT industry and its ongoing’.
