ABOUT NCC

National Cadet Corps (NCC) is a Tri-Service Organization comprising the Army, Navy and Air Force, engaged in grooming the youth of the country into disciplined and patriotic citizens. It is the organization which is regulated under the Ministry of Defence. It came into force in 1948 with a view to impart the rudimentary skills and training in handling of weapons of different type, and make them physically tough such that they could face the hardship easily. It acts as the body to provide the basic military training that inculcates the feeling of comradeship, courage, honesty and above all the patriotism.

CORE VALUES

The NCC is a responsive, learning and continuously evolving organization. Its activity is guided by certain core values that we endeavour to instil among all ranks of the NCC. These include the following:

  1. A sense of patriotic commitment to encourage cadets to contribute to national development
  2. Respect for diversities in religion, language, culture, ethnicity, life style and habitat to instil a sense of National unity and social cohesion
  3. Abiding commitment to learn and adhere to the norms and values enshrined in the Indian Constitution
  4. Understanding the value of a just and impartial exercise of authority
  5. Ability to participate in community development and other social programme
  6. A healthy life style free of substance abuse and other unhealthy practices
  7. Sensitivity to the needs of poor and socially disadvantaged fellow citizens
  8. Inculcating habits of restraint and self-awareness
  9. Understanding the values of honesty, truthfulness, self-sacrifice, perseverance and hard work
  10. Respect for knowledge, wisdom and the power of ideas

MOTTO & AIM

At the 12th Central Advisory Committee (CAC) meeting on 12 Oct 1980 they selected and declared "Unity and Discipline" as motto for the NCC. In living up to its motto, the NCC strives to be and is one of the greatest cohesive forces of the nation, bringing together the youth hailing from different parts of the country and moulding them into united and disciplined citizens of the nation.



NCC FLAG

NCC Flag Contains NCC Crest in gold in the middle, with the letters "NCC" encircled by a wreath of seventeen lotuses with a background in Red, Blue and Light blue. Red depicts the Army, Deep Blue depicts the Navy and Light Blue depicts the Air Force. The seventeen lotuses represent the 17 State Directorates. "Unity of Discipline" (Ekta aur Anushasan) is written at the bottom of the NCC Flag.



ASSOCIATE NCC OFFICER (ANO)

NCC officer Dr. Shivaprasad Shetty M, Head, Department of Chemistry, is leading the college NCC unit as care taker since 2021. He has completed ‘C’ certificate in NCC Naval wing at St. Aloysius College, Mangalore. He has also attended All India Nau SainikCamp-2003 and won silver medal in sailing competition held at Shipwright School, Vishakhapatnam, AP.



TRAINING

Drill, shooting, physical fitness, map reading, first aid, gliding, boat pulling, sailing, camp and adventure training covering basics of military training in Army, Navy and Air Force. In addition to these, depending upon the type of service, basic knowledge of that service is imparted to the cadets.

CAMPS

The various camp opportunities that the cadets gets are the

  1. Republic-Day Camp (RDC)
  2. All India Nau SainikCamp (AINSC)
  3. National Integration Camp (NIC)
  4. Independence Day Camp (IDC)
  5. Annual Training Camp (ATC), Combined Annual Training Camp (CATC)
  6. Basic leadership Camp (BLC), Advanced Leadership Camp (ALC)
  7. Trekking Camp etc…

CERTIFICATION PROGRAM

On successful completion of the laid down syllabi, cadets of Senior Division/Wing are eligible to appear for ‘B’ & ‘C’ certificate examinations. These are open for the cadets who have attended requisite number of periods and camps during their training.

INAUGRATION OF NCC at NMAMIT, Nitte

The institute has received approval to start NCC Naval wing with capacity of 50 cadets from the academic year 2020-2021. The inspection of the college was carried out by Cdr. T. Nanda Kishora, CO, 6 (Kar) Naval Unit NCC, Udupi, in the month of October 2020. NCC DTE (Kar& Goa) has allotted NCC Naval sub unit to NMAMIT under the expansion of NCC coverage in Border/Coastal area of 6 (Kar) Naval Unit NCC Udupi in February 2021.

March 26, 2021, was a milestone in the history of NMAMIT, with the inauguration of the newly launched 6 (KAR) NAVAL SUB UNIT NCC, Naval wing, which took place with great vigour and form. The subunit was inaugurated by Shri N. Vinaya Hegde,President,Nitte Education trust andCol. A.K. Sharma, Group Commander, NCC Group headquarters, Mangalore and Commander T. Nanda Kishora, Commanding officer of 6 (Kar) Naval Unit, Udupi.

The handover of NCC flag was the vital part of the event. Flag Ceremony was conducted by Col. A.K Sharma, Group Commander in the presence of Commander T. NandaKishora, during the inauguration.







The various activities undertaken by Cadets

L. Cdt. Rakshith SR Selected for Overseas Deployment in Indian Naval Cruise

L. Cdt. Rakshith SR of Civil Engineering has been selected for Overseas Deployment in 1 Training Squadron Naval Cruise from 1st March to 7th April 2023 to Mauritius, Madagascar, Mozambique, and Seychelles. He is the only cadet representing Karnataka and Goa Directorate and among the 10 cadets selected at the All India level.



Seamanship:

Seamanship training is an adventurous activity in the NCC Navy wing.This was held at Udyavara Boat pool, Udupi. Among the many activities that were undertaken were, introduction to boat pulling, description of 27 Feet DK Whaler and oars, setting off the rescue boat into the water and rowing, introduction to sailing etc..Being an NCC cadet in the naval wing, get to experience the thrills and bliss of boat pulling, an opportunity that is difficult to get otherwise. The training sessions altogether empowercadets to make strides in their skill and provide exposure to this venturesome activity making them striking and brave.











Firing:

Firing is a skill where one can develop a higher level of concentration, eye and muscle coordination, etc. For an NCC cadet, firing is an important activity as it gives an experience of using arms just as in the Indian defense forces.

The firing session was held on 18 September 2021 in the MIT firing range, Manipal. About 130 cadets from various colleges participated. Cadetswere explained about 0.22 MK IV rifle, its various parts and the technique to fire. All in all, it was a whole new experience which enabled each cadet to explore more of their selves and this amazing sport. Firing is essential for an NCC cadet as the training includes activities that are carried out in the armed forces.







Ship Modeling:

An activity where ‘Elegance’, ‘Accuracy’ and ‘Speed’ plays a major role in order to make the model of a ship. Ship modeling when talked about alone, is a vast subject, involving lots of techniques, implementation of ideas, innovation etc, converting raw pieces of balsa wood, to elegant-looking, magnificent Indian Naval ships.

Our cadets have got hands-on exposure to this particular field, wherein they got an opportunity to develop their skills and knowledge, study a blueprint, use a variety of tools and approaches, enabling them to become better engineers of tomorrow. They have successfully built models of INS Ganga, INS Bramhaputra and INS Delhi.







Shipwright Club:

Shipwright is a technical club founded in 2021 by an Ex-NCC Navy cadet Ms. Nisarga and group of mechanical engineering studentswho are passionate about ship modelling.The club is committed to actively involve members in ship modeling activities to and upgrade students’thinking ability and technical skill.Ship models are important in the field of engineering,to make estimates regarding the size of the vessel would be in real life and tends to concentrate efforts on highly accurate static and power(working) models.

Shipwright club offers students an opportunity to understand the basics of shipbuilding and dynamics of ship and basic navigation skills.

• Parade:

Every week, NCC parades are held, which include theory lectures as well as physical training. The cadets are trained in various aspects which help them enhance the way they groom themselves, stamina, discipline, and drill. Each of them gradually grows to become the best versions of them, maintaining solidarity, brotherhood, and coordination amongst themselves, week after week. The sessions enable them to expand their knowledge and abilities, and also make them physically and mentally fit. All in all, the parade sessions provide the cadets with lots of fun and learning, boosting their confidence and spirit, to become responsible youth of the nation.
