Structural Engineering
The M.Tech in Structural Engineering program was started in the year 2016, with an intake of 24 students. This program provides skilled manpower for industries in domains related to Structural design and consultancy. Some of the courses that will be taught during the first two semesters are Mechanics of Deformable Bodies, Structural Dynamics, Computational Structural Mechanics, Design of Tall Structures, Advanced Design of Steel Structures, Finite Element Method of Analysis, Design of Earthquake Resistant structures, and host of other interesting courses. There are also electives offered in different domains, to provide a complete overview of structural design, analysis. The department have modern laboratory facilities like Structures lab with loading frame of 50 Ton capacity, Research Lab with accelerated curing facility. Earthquake Engineering lab. Dynamics lab, Structural Health Monitoring lab with sensors and DAQ system, Hitech Concrete lab with SCC facility, and Computer Aided Design lab. The department has the requisite software like Etabs, Csi Bridge, Cype Cad, Midas Civil, Midas Gen, Midas FEA NX, Deep Soil, Resist, Dewesoft, and hardware and labs to provide the necessary skills and training to the students. Some of our students have been placed in companies like Petrocon Engineers and Consultants Mangalore, Sristi Ventures Udupi, Saipem Netherlands BV, Rambol Doha Qatar. The department has MoUs with several reputed organizations and Institutions for training, internships and research and technical support. The main impact of this course is industry requirements and opportunities in the structural design world. Many of our M.Tech Structures Post Graduates are entrepreneurs now setting up their own ventures and design companies.
This programme provides opportunities for students to carryout internship, projects, research and skill development etc., anywhere in the globe of their choice. Experts and industries from both national and international levels like Geosmart International Pte.Ltd, Singapore, M/s Srishti Ventures and M/s Accretgeo etc., will provide teaching, training and placement assistance.

- Students should be able to demonstrate a degree of mastery over the area as per the specialization of the program. The mastery should be at a level higher than the requirements in the appropriate bachelor program
- Demonstrate knowledge and understanding of engineering and management principles and apply the same to one’s own work, as a member and leader in a team, manage projects efficiently in respective disciplines and multidisciplinary environments after consideration of economical and financial factors
- Acquire professional and intellectual integrity, professional code of conduct, ethics of research and scholarship, consideration of the impact of research outcomes on professional practices and an understanding of responsibility to contribute to the community for sustainable development of society.
- Communicate with the engineering community, and with society at large, regarding complex engineering activities confidently and effectively, such as, being able to comprehend and write effective reports and design documentation by adhering to appropriate standards, make effective presentations, and give and receive clear instructions.
The department is actively involved in consultancy of Civil Engineering structures. The major areas are structural design, determination of SBC, Mix design, third party inspection of different Civil Engineering structures etc. Students are actively participating in the design and analysis of structures.
