Report of the IEEE Student Chapter Activities in NMAMIT, Nitte Conducted in 2015
- IEEE technical talk on " Language and computers" by Professor K P Rao, NADOJA awardee and the founder of “NUDI” Kannada font in Computers held on 17th Jan. 2015. He explained the concept natural language processing and use of Natural languages in Computers. The program was held in "Shambhavi Auditorium" of NMAMIT, NITTE. In this event IEEE Student members numbering about 120 participated.

IEEE workshop on “Research methodologies” :Dr.Chandrashekar (Dean - Research and Consultancy) Professor, department of CSE NITK addressed the students on Psychology of a good researcher. Dr. Narayan Aiyer, Former Professor of NIT Durgapur gave details about preparing research project proposals and Dr.SrinivasPai Deputy controller of Examinations NMAMIT briefed about technical writing for research and project work . Program was held in Shambhavi Auditorium on 23rd Jan 2015 and it was sponsored by TEQIP. Faculties and IEEE student members numbering about 120 were present during the programme.

IEEE - I2 CONECCT Regional Intercollegiate M. Tech. project competition” - IEEE Mangalore sub-section and NMAM Institute of Technology, Nitte in association with IEEE Bangalore section organized an intercollegiate M. Tech. student project competition under the banner of I2 CONECCT for final year M. Tech. Students of engineering colleges of six districts comprising of Dakshina Kannada, Udupi, Uttara Kannada, Shivamogga, Chikmagalur and Kodagu recently at NMAMIT, Nitte. Prof.Dayananda Shetty, Chairman of IEEE Mangalore sub-section in his inaugural address mentioned the need for “CONCLAVE” of industry and institutes on electronics, computational and communication technologies. Dr. R. Siva Reddy representing IEEE Bangalore section highlighted the importance of strengthening IEEE activities in the region for multidisciplinary research. Dr.Niranjan N. Chiplunkar Principal of NMAMIT, Nitte in his presidential address expressed his happiness to host the first of the kind event at NMAMIT, Nitte and wished that it will continue with a greater involvement of all participating colleges of the region. Dr.Annappa, Head of Computer Science &Engg. Dept., NITK Surathkal and Secretary of IEEE Mangalore sub-section was present during the occasion. Three awards – 1st, 2nd and 3rd with cash prize were given in two categories each– circuit and non-circuit branch. In circuit branch category, 1st prize is won by Mr.Raghavendra Prabhu, E&E Dept., NMAMIT, Nitte, 2nd prize by Ms Shreedevi Subramanya of VLSI – E&C Dept., Alva’s Institute of Engineering & Technology, Moodabidri and 3rd prize won by Ms.Nisha P. Shetty, CSE Dept., Canara Engineering College, Mangalore. In the non-circuit branch category, 1st prize is won by Mr.Astron Manoj Tauro, Machine Design - Mechanical Engg. Dept, NMAMIT, Nitte, 2nd prize by Mr. Kumar Roshan, Energy Systems – Mechanical Engg. Dept., NMAMIT, Nitte and 3rd prize is won by Mr.Vikas M., Marine Structures – Applied Mechanics and Hydraulics Dept., NITK Surathkal. The prizes were distributed during the IEEE Mangalore sub-section Annual General Body meeting held at NITK, Surathkal in the afternoon. Dr.KVSSSS Sairam, Professor E&C, Convener of I2 CONECCT and IEEE Student Branch Counselor welcomed the gathering. Dr.ShashikanthaKarinka, PG Coordinator NMAMIT Nitte proposed vote of thanks. Mrs.PrabhaNiranjan, Associate Professor E&C Department officiated the stage event.

IEEE (Institute of Electrical & Electronics Engineers) Mangalore sub-section, NMAM Institute of Technology, Nitte and Rotary Club Nitte jointly organized “ THE INTERNATIONAL YEAR OF THE LIGHT - LIGHT BEYOND THE BULB-2015”. PHOTO EXHIBITION on 21stDecember 2015, in SADANANDA AUDITORIUM of NMAMIT, Nitte, for shcool children form VIth class to Xth Class. The program begun at 10 30 am by welcoming speech followed by prayer, Dr.Dayananada Surathkal, Chairman, IEEE Mangalore Sub-Section spoken about the significance of the theme, Chief guest Mr.Manmohan H.K. , BEO Karkala, glimpsed the highlights of light phenomenon. Dr Nirnajan n. Chiplunkar, Principal NMAMIT, NITTE, delivered about varoious impacts of light scenario to the gathering. Mr.Panduranaga Shetty, President , Rotary, Nitte, Dr.K.V.S.S.S.S.Sairam, Prof E&C, IEEE Student Branch counselor, NMAMIT Nitte were presided over the function and Dr.Shashikanth Karninka , PG Coordinator and Secretary, Rotary Nitte,was delivered vote of thanks. IEEE Videos & Photos were viewed by the School children from various schools by a number of 1000 were present for this function along with their teachers. IEEE Volunteers and members of 120 were participated in this program. The program was ended at 1.30 pm.

Dr. Niranjan N. Chiplunkar welcome the speaker. Dr. K. Rajesh Shetty, HOD, E&C Department was briefed the speakers credentails. A strength of 75 IEEE Student members were present during the programme. IEEE Student Branch Counselor Dr. Kvssss Sairam, IEEE Student Branch counselor delivered the vote of Thanks.
