MCA Department

The Department of MCA was established in 1993-94 with a student intake of 30. The current sanctioned intake is 120. The program is recognised by the AICTE and affiliated to the VTU. The core subjects of this program are designed to introduce students to the various areas of Computer Science and Engineering such as computer programming, software engineering, computer networking, database management, computer graphics and system analysis. The well-balanced course significantly emphasizes on planning, designing and developing of complex commercial application software and system software. The course also places equal importance on the functional knowledge in various areas.

Avenues of Cryptography in Network Security

The Department of MCA, NMAM.I.T, Nitte organized a workshop on “Avenues of Cryptography in Network Security”, from 14th December 2017 to 16th December 2017.
Dr. Mohammed Mahfooz Sheikh was the Chief Guest of the inaugural function. Dr. Niranjan N. Chiplunkar, Principal, NMAM.I.T, Nitte presided over the function.
Dr. Mohammed Mahfooz Sheikh, in his inaugural address briefed about the current trends in the industry and said that there are ample opportunities for research activities.
Dr. Niranjan N Chiplunkar encouraged the faculty to make use of the latest technologies that will discussed in the workshop.
Dr. Surendra Shetty, HOD, Department of MCA welcomed the gathering.
Around 68 delegates from E & C, CS,IS and MCA from various Engineering colleges and students have participated in the workshop.
The resource persons were Dr. Mohammed Mahfooz, Research Scientist, CSIR Bangalore and Mr. D.H.R. Murthy Professor, Presidency University.
Ms. Mangala Shetty Coordinator of the workshop delivered a brief introduction about the workshop.
Mr. Arhath Kumar Assistant Professor delivered the vote of thanks.

First year and Lateral Entry Students Welcome Ceremony was conducted on 25th September, 2017. Dr. Surendra Shetty, HOD, welcomed the students and introduced the faculty members. Dr. Karuna Pandit addressed the gathering and gave information about choice based system. Examination coordinator Ms. Pallavi Shetty briefed about the examination pattern. Mr. Balachandra Rao, SAMCA coordinator explained about the activities of SAMCA. Ms. Mamatha Balipa, Project coordinator spoke about the importance of projects.     The department of MCA, NMAMIT bid farewell to final year students on 09th of November 2017.
    The director of the department Dr.K. M Hegde wished the outgoing batch all the success. He advised students to show their commitment in carrying out internships. He also briefed about the need for catching up with current industry trends such as Machine Learning, Artificial Intelligence etc.
    Talking on the occasion, head of the department Dr. SurendraShetty urged students to take up projects which will help the society and mankind.
    The Vice Principal and Dean (academics) Dr. I. Ramesh Mithanthaya presided over the function. On the occasion he congratulated the students. He requested students to mentor their juniors and to maintain a bond with the college.
    Faculty members and students shared their memories being together in MCA.As a token of memory, mementos were distributed to the outgoing students.

EXPRO '17

The Department of MCA had organized a Project Exhibition, ‘MCA-exPro’17 on 8th November 2017in the department premises. The aim of the exhibition was to showcase the work done by the students of the Department, encourage them to think innovatively and develop projects that are helpful to the society.
The Principal of NMAM.I.T, Nitte, Dr. Niranjan N Chiplunker inaugurated the exhibition. Addressing the gathering the Principal appreciated the Head of the Department Dr. Surendra Shetty and the faculty of the Department for organizing the event and advised them to conduct the event every year. Highlighting the importance of doing projects during their study, the Principal encouraged the students to take up projects helpful to the society. Speaking during the event, Dr. I. Ramesh Mithanthay, the Vice Pricipal of NMAM.I.T, Nitte, congratulated the students for their work and also encouraged the students to take up more work that will benefit the society. Speaking on the occasion, Dr. K.M.Hegde, Director, Department of MCA, NMAMIT, Nitte, advised the students to take up projects in Artificial Intelligence, since it an emerging area. Dr. Sudesh Bekal, Dean(R&D), NMAM.I.T, Nitte, also scruitinized the projects and appreciated the students for their work.
A total of 16 teams, comprising all the students of fifth semester participated in the competition with enthusiasm, and exhibited their works. Each team had worked on unique projects taking the help from the faculty members. All the projects were of good quality and worked satisfactorily as per the design. However, for the sake of giving prizes, two best projects were selected based on certain judgment criteria.
The prize winning projects are as follows:
First Prize: Web Solutions for Community Health Department and Satellite Primary Health Centres, by Punith Kumar S. R, guided by Mr. Anantha Murthy.
Second Prize: Insemination Report Management in Dairy System, by Darshana Kodler, Chaitnya Bhat G, guided by Ms. Mangala A.G
Ms. Sarika Hegde, Associate Professor, Department of CS & E, NMAMIT, Nitte and Ms. Sharada Shenoy, Associate Professor, Department of CS & E, NMAM.I.T, Nitte helped in evaluating the projects.
Ms. Mamatha Balipa coordinated the projects throughout the semester, right from the formation of teams, till the prize distribution. All the faculty and staff members of the department helped the students with their timely guidance and support.

The Department of MCA, NMAM.I.T, Nitte organized a technical competition in association with Robosoft Technologies, Pvt. Ltd. on 15th Spetember 2017 for BSc, BCA and BCom(IT) students.
Mr. Umesh Kamath was the Chief Guest of the inaugural function. Dr. Niranjan N Chiplunkar, Principal, NMAM.I.T, Nitte presided over the function.
Mr. Umesh Kamath, in his inaugural address briefed about the current trends in the industry and said that there are ample opportunities for Indians in the Global market.
Dr. Niranjan N Chiplunkar encouraged the students to ramp up on the latest technologies used in the industry to become employable and also reiterated the importance of constant learning.
Dr. Surendra Shetty, HOD, Department of MCA welcomed the gathering. The final round of the competition was judge by a panel consisting of Mr. Karthik K, Senior project manager and Mr. Pradeep Kumar, VP, Information Technology from Robosoft Technologies, Udupi.
A cash prize of Rs. 10,000 was won as First Prize by the team from Madhav Pai Memorial College, Manipal
A cash prize of Rs. 5,000 was won as Second Prize by the team from St. Mary's Syrian College, Brahmavar.
The prizes were distributed by Mr. Karthik K and Mr. Pradeep Kumar from Robosoft Technologies.

Extra-curricular activities

SAMCA: Students Association of MCA (SAMCA) is a students forum. SAMCA helps students to go beyond the parameters of classroom education. It organises extra curricular activities such as seminars, group discussions, technical quizzes and cultural programmes.

SAMCA organises SEMAPHORE, an South India Level inter-collegiate meet, every year. It provides the students with hands-on experience in event management calling for creativity, leadership, team work and innovativeness.

WINDOWS is a wall magazine where students can exhibit their literary talents

Professional society activities: Students are members of CSI India. The MCA students are regularly participating in different events organized by CSI Nitte Chapter and ISTE student chapter activities.

Entrepreneurship Development Cell(EDC): Students attend seminars organized by the EDC of the Institute funded by the Department of Science and Technology, New Delhi.

Report of SAMCA UNPLUGGED

The department of MCA organized an event SAMCA UNPLUGGED on 27th of October 2017. The Senior Customer Success Manager at Adobe India Pvt Ltd., Ms. Sharath Ramaswamy was the Chief Guest.

The Head of the department Dr. Surendra Shetty welcomed the gathering.

Director of MCA, Dr. K Mohan Hegde explained how the MCA at NMAMIT has evolved from its initial days to become one of the sophisticated departments providing MCA course.

The chief guest of the function Ms. Sharath Ramaswamy shared her experience in working for various IT companies. She gave insights on the vast opportunities available in the various domains of IT industry.

Principal Dr. Niranjan N Chiplunkar delivered the presidential address.

Enhancing Self Competency course will be taught in the fourth semester for three hours per week. In this course basically we focus on overall personality development, communication skills, grooming, group discussions and other competency building skills.

Audit courses will be offered along with the regular curriculum in the semester end vacations.

Pre-Placement Training Programme Students are given extensive pre-placement training during the vacations. They are taught mathematics/accountancy, quantitative analysis & software skills and are trained in technical and management skills to handle computer applications and software problem solving situations and are prepared to face the campus recruitment process.
