Institution and Department
NMAM Institute of Technology was established in 1986. NMAMIT offers 7 undergraduate in Electronics & Communication Engineering, Computer Science & Engineering, Civil Engineering, Electrical & Electronics Engineering, Information Science & Engineering, Bio-Technology and Mechanical Engineering.The institution also offers 11 postgraduate Engineering programs (M.Tech) along with MCA and MBA programs as well as Doctoral programs through 10 research centers under various departments approved by VTU. All UG and PG Programs are accredited by the National Board of Accreditation (NBA), New Delhi from the year 2001. The institution has about 4500 students and 313 faculty members supported by 111 technical, 343 non-teaching & administrative staff. All Programmes are permanently affiliated to VTU,Belagavi. The Institute hasbeen accredited with ‘B’ grade by National Assessment and Accreditation Council (NAAC) in December 2014. Since then, it has made improvements in curricular aspects, research activities, Governance related issues and innovative methods. The institute is certified to the ISO 9001-2015 standards for quality education by NVT Quality Certifications (ANAB accredited). The institution has been granted Academic Autonomy under Visvesvaraya Technological University from 2007-08.
The Department of Humanities started functioning independently since October 2013. Prior to that, it was associated with the Department of Mathematics. The Department has well qualified faculty and dedicated supporting staff.

Department of Humanities
Established in October 2013, the department occupies a unique place in an institute of technical education and research. Along with the regular teaching, the Department also arranges a good number of other activities for the benefit of the students and staff of the institute. The Department facilitates foreign language learning to enable students to explore opportunities abroad. As NMAMIT develops with a special focus on research and education, the Department of Humanities also aspires to expand its horizon to cover research oriented learning in Humanities.

The department has a well-equipped Language Lab ‘SUBHASHINI’ to facilitate the learning process on various aspects of the content of the course(English & Communication Skills), to educate the learners in contemporary skills in English and internationally accepted pronunciation, related topics in competitive examinations, to conduct online examinations and train the participants during workshops, etc.
The Department has also developed a customized course material ‘SUBHASHINI’ with theory and laboratory components for interactive learning.

Research Publications
The faculty of the Department are also involved in pursuing research. Ms. Rashmi D Hegde has been deputed for Ph.D. on full-time basis and three faculty are pursuing their Ph.D. on part-time basis and in the stages of submission.
There are five publications in national and international journals considering five years in precedence.

• Bridge Course in Spoken English and Communication Skills to improve language skill and build confidence among slow learners who find difficulty in English as a medium of instruction.
• Organizing workshops and training programmes for the students, faculty and supporting staff of the institute.
• Conducting Lecture Series of eminent resource persons from Public Administration, Defence Services and other fields to motivate and familiarize students about career opportunities through competitive examinations at national and state levels.
• Set up a Public Services Examination Coaching Cell to facilitate coaching facilities for competitive examinations. Regular weekend coaching classes in the institute in association with Sarvajna IAS Academy, Mangaluru are conducted.
• Organization and Participation in various extension activities from time to time.
