The Department of Electronics and Communication Engineering offers:
  • Undergraduate Program with an intake of 180 students.
  • Postgraduate Program in Digital Electronics & Communication, with an intake of 25 students.

  • Nodal centre for Virtual Laboratory by MHRD, New Delhi under National Institute of Technology Karnataka (NITK), Surathkal.
The Department has well qualified and experienced faculty members. It has state of art laboratories such as VLSI Lab with Cadence EDA Tool, Digital System Design Lab, Digital Signal Processing Lab, Advanced Communication Lab and Research Lab.

  • Engineering knowledge: Apply the knowledge of mathematics, science, engineering fundamentals, and an electronics and communication engineering specialization to the solution of complex engineering problems.
  • Problem analysis: Identify, formulate, review research literature, and analyze complex electronics and communication engineering problems reaching substantiated conclusions using first principles of mathematics, natural sciences, and engineering sciences.
  • Design/development of solutions: Design solutions for complex electronics and communication engineering problems and design system components or processes that meet the specified needs with appropriate consideration.

ATMEGA 16/32 Development Board

ATMEGA16 Development Board is made from single sided PCB board to provide extra strength to the connector joints for increased reliability. Board can work on 7 to 15V AC or DC supply. It has built-in reverse polarity protection. 7805 voltage regulator has heat sink for heat dissipation so that it can supply 1A current continuously without getting over heated. It has switches for IO interface and reset. It also has RS232 interface with DB9 female connector based on MAX232. All the ports are connected to standard jumper connectors. The Board is developed by Adithya M. D. under the guidance of Sukesh Rao M. [2017-18]

USBasp AVR Programmer: USBasp is a USB in-circuit programmer for Atmel AVR controllers. It simply consists of an ATMega8 and a couple of passive components. The programmer uses a firmware-only USB driver, no special USB controller is needed, and that makes it low cost USB programmer. It works under multiple platforms like Linux, Mac OS X and Windows. PIC16F877A Development Board can be used to evaluate and demonstrate the capabilities of Microchip PIC16F877A microcontroller. The MCU socket on board provides support for 40 pin DIP package of PIC16F877A controller. The board is designed for general purpose applications and includes a variety of hardware to exercise microcontroller peripherals. It is a fantastic tool for code debugging, development and prototyping. The all new board design has made it much more user-friendly than its predecessors, ideally suitable for training and development purposes. The components used in this board are of high quality and the PCB is high quality two layer PTH PCB, which makes this board especially durable. PIC16F8xx Series Development Board

It is a low-cost In-Circuit Debugger (ICD) and In-Circuit Serial Programmer (ICSP) intended to be used as an evaluation, debugging and programming aid in a laboratory environment. It has features such as Target VDD monitoring, Diagnostic LEDs, MPLAB IDE user interface, USB interface to a host PC etc.. It was developed by Anuj Shanbog under the guidance of Sukesh Rao M. PICKIT-2 Programmer

The Digital Bell System consists of a LCD to display system/bell timings and prompt user friendly messages. A Keypad is used to load the bell timings to the non-volatile memory. Few switches are used to set different modes of operation. It has an inbuilt I2C board that consists of Real Time Clock (DS1307) which tracks over the real time. An 8 bit microcontroller (AT89S52) is used to control the input and output operations involved. It also consists of a driver circuit that is controlled by microcontroller to drive the devices like bell/siren/alarm. This was developed by Deepthi U., Kumuda, Rashmi, Srinivas Pai under the guidance of Sukesh Rao M. [2016-17]
