Electrical & Electronics Engineering Department

The Department of Electrical and Electronics Engineering, established in 1987, offers UG and PG programs. The Department offers the undergraduate programme of B.E in Electrical and Electronics Engineering with an intake of 60, The B.E. program is an Autonomous under VTU since 2007 and is accredited by the National Board of Accreditation (NBA) during 2002, 2005, 2012 and 2018. The Department is offering M.Tech in Power Electronics (Autonomous under VTU) from the academic year 2014-15 with an intake of 18 students. The Department is also a recognized research center under VTU Belagavi, with 3 guides and 13 Research Scholars. The Department has excellent research outputs in terms of publications in refereed International Journals and National, International Conferences with a total number of 140 publications in the last 4 years. The Department has well-qualified, passionate, dedicated faculty and has a well-connected alumni network. With the state of the art Laboratory in Power Electronics, Control Systems, Power Systems, Computers and High Voltage & Relay, which caters to the need of all the Electrical and Electronics Engineering students. The Department has an excellent link and MoU with industries. The Department is organizing seminars, conferences and workshops on a regular basis to cope up with the recent trends in the technological field.

This laboratory consists of electrical machinery required to conduct DC and Synchronous Machine Laboratory for 4thsemester and Transformer & Induction Machine Laboratory for 5thsemester students of E&E Engineering. This laboratory is well equipped with machine from renowned manufacturer like Kirloskar, BHEL . This laboratory also includes different range of meters to carry out the experiments. This laboratory has state of art layout which spread over 250 sq.mt area with required safety measures and first aid kits.

This laboratory used to conduct Analog Electronic Circuits lab in 3rd semester and Power Electronics lab in 6thsemester of E&E Engineering. The experiment performed in these laboratory helps students to build the technical skills in design, development and trouble shooting of circuitspertaining to Analog/ Power Electronic fields. This laboratory is well equipped with sufficient DSO,AFO, RPS, Power Electronic modules to carry out the experiment. The laboratory is well structured and spreads over 180 sq. mt area.

This laboratory used to conduct Logic Design lab in 3rd semester and Microcontroller lab in 4th semester of E&E Engineering. The experiment performed in these laboratories helps students to understand and apply their knowledge in the areas of Digital electronic circuits and Embedded systems. These laboratories are well equipped with digital trainer kits and FPGA kits to perform Logic Design lab, Micro-LABlet kits (module designed and developed by the department) to perform microcontroller lab.

This laboratory used to conduct Circuit and Measurements Laboratory in 5th semester and Linear IC & Control System Laboratory in the 6th semester of E&E Engineering. This laboratory well equipped with DC and AC servo mechanism, Closed loop PID simulator, Compensation network, Lead-Lag systems to perform control system related experiments. The laboratory is also includes good number of Instrumentation equipment to cater Circuit and Measurement related experiment.

This laboratory used for High voltage and relay testing experiment by 7th semester students of E&E Engineering. Students are performing experiment involving 50kV of AC and 70kV of DC voltage. The advanced relay testing kits of this laboratory gives deeper insight to understand industry level applications.

Inauguration of Center for Design of Power Electronic Systemson August 2, 2017

M.Tech in Power Electronics was started during the year 2014 with an intake of 18 students. There are 6 core courses and 4 electives in the first two semesters. Along with these courses, a new innovative credit based course namely “Research Experience through Practice I and II” has been included from this academic year. Students also take up innovative projects in the nearby industries and well known research labs, industries like MRPL,L&T.

The Department of Electrical and Electronics Engineering is an established Research Centre under VTU Belagavi since the year 2007 offering Ph.D programmes both Part-Time and Full-Time. So far, two candidates have completed Ph.D and 13 more candidates have registered for Ph.D under the centre. The department has three of the faculty members recognized as VTU approved Research Supervisors with diverse research background and exposure, who are dedicated in fulfilling the varied research aspirations of the prospective researchers.


Every year National level conference and FDP are conducted in the department. This provides good platform for both student and faculty to enhance the technical skill.
