I am very happy to place before you a brief report of the College for the academic year 2019-20. Established in the year 1986, our Institute is now accredited by NAAC (National Accreditation and Assessment Council) for five years with ‘A’ grade valid till the year 2022. All Seven undergraduate B.E. Programs are accredited by NBA as per the Tier-I outcome based evaluation system and accreditation is valid till June 2021. College is placed at 128th position in the NIRF (National Institute Ranking Framework) ranking 2019. College has been selected for the Unnat Bharat Abhiyaan program of the government of India. The Institute is placed in the Platinum Category in the AICTE-CII ranking 2018 and 2019 from MHRD. Institute has been placed in Diamond category in QS-I Gauge Engineering Institute ranking at the National level.
During the current academic year, the construction of new Civil & Electrical Engineering block with about 70000sq.ft. area spread in five floors has been completed. The work in the top floor of the EDC block with about 10000sq. ft. area has been completed and is now ready to host start-up companies. The Institute feels that having such start-ups in the campus will motivate the students and the faculty and will encourage them to take up some industry ready projects. The renovation work of the Sanmathi Museum is almost complete and in the new set up the visitors can enjoy the greenery of the gardens, water filled ponds and the well-arranged museum.
Institute has eleven centres of excellence in the departments of Mechanical, Electrical, Biotechnology, Computer Science and Basic Sciences. About 120 research scholars are working in 10 different VTU research centres of the College. During the calendar year 2019, 153 Scopus indexed and 48 Web of Science indexed papers have been published by the faculty members. 68 MoUs and agreements have been signed over last few years with Government organizations, R&D centres, Universities and Industries. Activities are taking place in full swing as per the agreements. Civil Engineering Department is actively involved in the consultancy activities through which third part inspection of Government works in the Karkala taluk and some other parts of Udupi district are undertaken.
At present, the Institute has 4981 students and 318 teaching staff ably supported by about 560 non-teaching technical and non-technical staff. About 2500 students stay in the college hostels. The college runs 34 busses for daily commuters.
During the current academic year, in the Semester end examination held during May- June 2019, 90 percentage of students passed in the final year. Good number of our students participated in the National level technical & Project competitions and leadership camps and have won prizes. Through Aeroclub and Team Nitte Racing, students are participating in various National level competitions. Mechanical Engineering students and faculty members participated and exhibited their research projects at the National Level IMTEX exhibition held at Bangalore in January 2020 and won II prize at National level. This is the fifth consecutive year of participation of our college team in IMTEX. Our students also have won prize by FPSI at National level. About 150 final year students have attended three month Internship program in 42 different companies. This internship was connected to their placements. The academic calendar of the College has been suitably modified to accommodate this internship program. Otherwise, all our final year engineering students have completed mandatory one-month internship in some Industry/Reputed Institute/R&D organization. During the academic year 2018-19, 649 job offers have been obtained by the Engineering and MCA students, and 109 by MBA students. During the current academic year i.e., 2019-20, already 563 Engineering and MCA students and about 77 MBA students have been placed in about 65 companies in the campus placement. 14 Students are now in four different companies in Japan, undergoing internships. These are pre-placement internships.
The Institute has full-fledged facilities for sports and games. B.C. Alva sports complex has separate Football, Hockey and Cricket grounds. It also has 400meter track and separate area for throws, jumps and Volleyball courts. The indoor stadium houses International Standard wooden Basket ball court which also is being used for playing badminton by laying standard mat on the floor as and when needed. The Multigym with state-of-the-art equipment is set up five years back.
We are proud to say that NMAM Institute of Technology, Nitte has ranked I in sports and games achievements among VTU affiliated colleges during the year 2019. In the year 2019, NMAMIT has secured overall championship trophy with 09 team championship trophies and 07 Runner up trophies in single Zone & inter zone, 09 zonal championship trophies and 08 zonal runner up trophies in VTU Sports & games competition. A total of 27 students have participated in All India and South zone inter-university competitions in the year 2019 in various sports disciplines. We are happy to inform you that Mr. Himanshu M. Hegde, Mechanical engineering student has secured silver medal in All India Inter University Kick Boxing competition held at Andra University, Visakapatnam from 8-11 March 2019.
The registered alumni chapter Wenamitaa is very active and conducts regular alumni interactions. Every year, the Best outgoing student award at college level is sponsored by one of our alumnus Mr. Sanjeeth Shetty. Silver Medals for second Topper in every branch are given by our Alumni association. Alumni association also provides financial assistance to good projects from every department.
Kannada Rajyotsava, Independence Day and Republic Day were celebrated involving all the Institutions of the campus. Ganeshotsava, Diwali, Onam and Christmas were celebrated in the campus with usual zeal and enthusiasm. The Engineers and Teachers’ day was celebrated in the college during September 2019, where faculty members who received the Ph.D. degree during 2018-19 academic year were felicitated. NSS unit of the college is involving in the Blood donation camp and several other community related activities. Annual NSS camp was held during December 2019 at Borkatte. About 50 students and faculty attended the five-daycamp.
Entrepreneurship awareness and Skill Development programs are being conducted on regular basis with the help of the Entrepreneurship development Cell, Government of India and Department of Industries and commerce, Government of Karnataka respectively. This is not only for the final year students of the college but also for the rural unemployed youth of this region.
All this has become possible by the great support from the Management. I thank our Trust President Sri N.V. Hegde, all the Governing council and Academic council members, our faculty and staff members and very cooperative and well disciplined student friends for their excellent cooperation and involvement in all the college level activities. I thank everyone connected with this Institute for all their support.
